Thirty years of trials and tribulations, thirty years of relentless striving and progress. On April 27, Dadi Steel Structure successfully held its 30th-anniversary celebration and BIM Modeling Competition. The event proudly welcomed distinguished guests, including Bao Lianjin, Chief Structural Engineer at the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd.; Jin Xiaoqun, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Urban Construction at Zhejiang Shuren University; and Zhu Shuangzhu, Deputy Director of the Expert Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Steel Structure Association.

Pei Chuanfei, Chairman of the Company; Fang Shunsheng, General Manager; Xu Xiangjun and Wang Chunfeng, Deputy General Managers; Mo Guanshui, Chief Consultant Engineer; and other relevant personnel attended the competition, which was chaired by Wang Bin, Vice President of the Company’s Design Institute.

Bao Lianjin, Chief Structural Engineer of East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd., delivered a speech as the guest representative, while Fang Shunsheng, General Manager of Zhejiang Dadi Steel Structure Co., Ltd., delivered the opening address on behalf of the competition organizers.

The competition comprises two components: theoretical knowledge of BIM-based construction techniques and hands-on BIM modeling practice, providing a comprehensive assessment of contestants’ theoretical understanding, proficiency in BIM software, modeling skills, and ability to apply digital technologies throughout all project phases. Contestants showcased their expertise, making the event vibrant and dynamic.

After fierce competition and in light of the judges’ expert opinions, Zheng Yuheng of Zhejiang Dadi Steel Structure Co., Ltd. was awarded first prize; Zhou Yin-xuan of Hangzhou Jinhua Steel Structure Co., Ltd. and Gao Lin-fei of Hangzhou Yigang Architectural Design & Consulting Co., Ltd. were awarded second prize; and Yu Biao of Zhejiang Dadi Steel Structure Co., Ltd., Wang Shuai-kang of Shandong Yuheng Steel Structure Co., Ltd., and Li Qing-sheng of Hangzhou Xusheng Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. were awarded third prize.

Bao Lianjin, Chief Structural Engineer at the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd.:

Bao Lianjin extended his congratulations to the award-winning contestants and provided commentary from three perspectives: exam question design, contestants’ professional competence, and scoring criteria. He encouraged the participants to conduct an in-depth analysis of their exam results, apply what they have learned to similar problems to enhance their modeling skills, and acknowledged the company’s strong emphasis on detailed design. The development of steel structures is a collective effort spanning the entire industry chain; as a critical component of this process, detailed design can be extended both upstream and downstream to explore additional avenues for innovation. For example, establishing a project inventory database and leveraging its application across diverse projects to accumulate data will progressively improve the accuracy of the computational basis.

Jin Xiaoqun, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Urban Construction at Zhejiang Shuren University:

Jin Xiaoqun extended warm congratulations on the company’s 30th anniversary and commended the competition for being designed in accordance with the principle of “real-world problems tackled with real-world solutions,” noting its strong relevance as a reference for the university’s graduation projects. She then highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Dadi Steel Structure and Shuren College from the perspective of university–enterprise collaboration. As the construction industry undergoes transformation and upgrading, the civil engineering discipline must also adapt to the demands of the times and the needs of enterprises. This competition not only provides a platform for practical exchange but also points the way forward for the university’s talent-development efforts. Moving forward, the university will further deepen the integration of industry and education and promote more robust university–enterprise partnerships.

Zhu Shuangzhu, Deputy Director of the Expert Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Steel Structure Association:

Zhu Shuangzhu extended his congratulations on the 30th anniversary of Dadi Steel Structure and on the successful hosting of the competition, as well as to the winning contestants and all participants. He highlighted three key factors behind the event’s success: first, the competition was well organized, with strong leadership and orderly execution; second, the competition topics were highly relevant, requiring contestants to perform hands-on work based on actual engineering drawings; and third, the contestants demonstrated exceptional skills, completing modeling and drafting within just two and a half hours. Since its establishment in 2008, Dadi Steel Structure has been an initiating and vice-presidential member of the association, actively participating in all activities organized by the association, which has, in turn, closely witnessed the company’s steady growth over the years. He expressed the hope that Dadi Steel Structure will continue to strive for excellence and make further contributions to transforming our province from a major steel-structure-producing province into a leading one.

Mo Guanshui, Chief Consultant Engineer at Zhejiang Dadi Steel Structure Co., Ltd.:

Mo GuanShui expressed his gratitude to the guests, leaders, and partners in attendance for their support, as well as to the conference staff for their hard work. He then provided an in-depth analysis of the topics covered in the exam questions, emphasizing the importance of basing the competition on real-world case studies to closely simulate actual working scenarios. His vision is to “promote learning and application through competition,” leveraging the event to inspire innovation, broaden perspectives, and foster greater exchange and collaboration in BIM technology.

Pei Chuanfei expressed his gratitude to the guests in attendance, partner organizations, contestants, and staff.
