Craftsmanship in Every Detail: Dadi Steel Structure Wins the Luban Award for Construction Engineering in China
Recently, the 2022–2023 China Construction Engineering Luban Award (National Quality Project) was announced in Beijing. The “Jiangsu Horticultural Expo Park (Phase I)” project, in which Zhejiang Dadi Steel Structure Co., Ltd. participated in construction, was honored with the award, adding another Luban Award statuette to Dadi Steel Structure’s collection.
The Luban Prize for Construction Engineering in China is the highest honor for construction quality in the Chinese building industry, representing the current pinnacle of engineering quality in the country and often referred to as the “Oscar” of China’s construction sector. Since its establishment in 1987, the Luban Prize has exerted a profound influence both within the industry and across society, and has become a key symbol of high-quality projects and corporate branding.
Located in the Tangshan Scenic Area of Jiangning District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, this project leverages the Tangshan National Tourism Resort and capitalizes on industrial upgrading and ecological restoration to create a landmark eco-tourism facility that integrates conferences, leisure, resort stays, and health-and-wellness services.
The project encompasses multiple construction components, including the main exhibition hall, Radisson Hotel, waystation, small railway station, Huanghua’an Inn, geological science museum, and various surrounding ancillary facilities. Our company undertook the steel structure engineering for all of the aforementioned individual projects.
As the largest single steel-structure building in the Phase I project, the Radisson Hotel primarily employs a hybrid structural system comprising steel, timber, cable-stayed, and membrane structures, characterized by large spans, complex structural configurations, and challenging fabrication and installation. The overall roof geometry features unique curvilinear profiles throughout, with the membrane structure’s “flower-column” section further composed of multi-curved steel and timber beams, resulting in intricate fabrication processes and exceptionally high construction difficulty.
In response to the key challenges in project construction, the project team has placed “technological innovation and smart construction” at the core of its approach. By conducting targeted research, driving technological breakthroughs, implementing smart construction practices, and adopting efficient management strategies, the team ensures flawless project delivery and supports intelligent construction and smart operations throughout the entire project lifecycle.
During the project construction phase, significant achievements were made in scientific and technological innovation, including one national-level BIM award—the “Longtu Cup”—six provincial- and ministerial-level BIM awards, such as the Shanghai BIM Competition, four utility model patents, one provincial-level prefabrication achievement, two enterprise-level construction methods, and the publication of a total of six academic journal articles and corporate papers.
The project has also successively won the Zhejiang Provincial Steel Structure Golden Award and the China Steel Structure Gold Award.
