First Steel Crown Segment Lifted for Qidong’s 238.8m Twin Towers

On June 12, the steel grille column weighing 3 tons was accurately hoisted into place at height, marking the successful first lift of the crown steel structure for the twin towers of Yizhou Diehu Jingyuan Project in Qidong. The project has officially entered the final phase of tower crown steel structure installation.
Located at the intersection of Jianghai South Road and Huangpu River Road in Qidong, Jiangsu Province, this landmark super high-rise complex adjoins Diehu Park. Covering a total floor area of approximately 376,000 square meters, it consists of two 238.8-meter twin towers, commercial podiums and two underground floors. Upon completion, it will stand as Qidong’s tallest building and a new urban icon.
The tower crown construction represents the most technically challenging part of the whole project. Adopting an innovative structural system combining multi-support hyperbolic spatial reticulated shells and four-chord trusses, the crown uses around 4,000 tons of steel with intricate components and joints. Featuring a maximum height of 43.64 meters and a maximum arch span of 49.57 meters, it comprises nearly 1,000 special-shaped columns and large-span trusses.
Working over 200 meters above the ground, the team applied BIM technology for hoisting simulation and optimized construction plans. They tackled harsh high-altitude wind conditions, stringent precision requirements, structural deflection control and staged unloading procedures. The milestone lift has solved key technical difficulties, setting a benchmark for follow-up construction and offering valuable references for similar super high-rise projects. The team is now pressing ahead to finish the iconic development.
