Main Steel Space Frame Structure of Lusaka Kenneth Kaunda International Airport Terminal in Zambia Successfully Tops Out

On the afternoon of March 20, 2017, the space-truss structure project for the terminal building at Lusaka Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Zambia, constructed by Zhejiang Dadi Steel Structure Co., Ltd., successfully reached structural completion after more than four months of the protracted rainy season, with the main space-truss structure now fully topped out and the “room-within-a-room” steel structure installation concurrently completed.

Since November 2016, when the installation of the space frame commenced, the project team, taking into account the gradual handover of on-site civil engineering construction platforms and the local shortage of materials, decisively adopted a sliding scaffolding construction method. This approach was both economical and rational, ensured construction quality and safety, met the project schedule requirements, and earned unanimous recognition from both the general contractor and the owner.

The dedication of the project management team and Chinese workers who remained on site overseas during the Spring Festival laid the foundation for the completion of the main truss structure. In addition, the project team’s well-organized plans for the mobilization of materials, personnel, and equipment, coupled with meticulous preparations for construction during the rainy season, ensured the successful completion of the terminal building’s main truss structure.

The construction of the metal roof is now entering its peak phase, with multiple individual structures set to commence work simultaneously. The project team has already made thorough preparations, and in the near future, a grand and majestic terminal building will rise on the vast African landscape.
