A Glorious Milestone: The Golden Roof Is Officially Sealed | The Structural Topping-Out Ceremony for the Shanghai Jinqiao Guopei Land Parcel R&D Project Held Successfully
At 9:28 a.m. on May 23, the topping-out ceremony for the structural completion of the R&D project at the Jinqiao National Training Base site in Shanghai was solemnly held at the construction site, with representatives from the Pudong New Area Government, Jinqiao Group, tenant enterprises, the design institute, the supervision unit, the general contractor, and all subcontractors in attendance to witness this momentous occasion.
As the leaders jointly activated the topping-out pusher, the final truss top chord—adorned with colorful balls and ribbons—was slowly lifted into place and securely positioned, marking the successful completion of the steel structure topping-out ceremony for the Jin Qiao 1851 project.
Located in the core area of the Jinqiao Urban Subcenter, this project serves as the gateway to the “Shanghai Golden Ring” and is a key development zone along the “Golden Central Ring” corridor. The project utilizes a total of 28,300 metric tons of steel and boasts a gross floor area of 140,843.54 square meters, comprising one 100-meter main tower and three 60-meter secondary towers, with a 470-meter podium spanning north–south. With its distinctive architectural form, the project has emerged as a new landmark along the “Golden Central Ring” development corridor.
The project features a complex structural system, high technical challenges, and significant construction difficulties. The steel frame is a suspended structure, with all steel column joints connected via high-strength bolted connections and truss–hanging column connections implemented as pin-joint connections. This demands extremely high fabrication and installation accuracy, making it one of the largest civil buildings in China to adopt an inverted-suspension structural system.
Since the formal commencement of superstructure construction, the project team has meticulously organized and mobilized all available resources, simultaneously advancing the construction of Towers B, C, and D. Adhering to the dedicated construction plan, the team has maintained strict oversight over two critical quality control areas—high-strength steel thick-plate welding and precise pin installation—and implemented a range of coordinated measures to accelerate the steel structure erection work.
