239-Meter Supertall Twin Towers: Successful First Steel Erection for the Yinzhou Diehu Project


 

At 8:18 a.m. on February 18, the first steel column for the Yinzhou Diehu Project was lifted into place, officially marking the commencement of the steel structure works.

 

 

Located in Huilong Town, Qidong City, Nantong, Jiangsu Province, the project is part of the government’s flagship Future Core Area—the Diehu District—covering a total land area of 81,900 square meters. The master plan calls for a total floor area of approximately 376,000 square meters, with 235,000 square meters above ground and 141,000 square meters underground.

The Diehu Project comprises two 239-meter supertall towers, east and west podiums, and a two-level underground parking garage. The east tower stands at 44 stories, with a four-story podium, while the west tower has 43 stories and a three-story podium. The project utilizes more than 10,000 metric tons of steel, and the towering heights of the twin skyscrapers have redefined the city’s skyline, establishing the project as the latest landmark of Qidong’s rapid rise.

The project’s primary steel structure consists of stiffened columns, which are constructed in close coordination with civil works throughout the entire construction process. The column–beam connections are particularly complex, and the widespread use of rebar splicing couplers further imposes extremely stringent requirements on steel structure installation.

The main beam of the podium banquet hall is 35.5 meters long, making it impossible to lift using conventional mechanical equipment. To ensure smooth construction progress, a triangulated support system—after thorough verification and calculation—is employed. The main beam is delivered in segments into the banquet hall, where it is assembled and welded on-site, and then lifted and installed using manual chain hoists.

 

 

Each of the Twin Towers features a hyperbolic spire, designed with a continuous curved surface that tapers gradually from a base elevation of approximately 199 meters down to the pinnacle, creating a seamless, unified form that underscores the spire’s distinctive identity and reinforces the project’s overall landmark status.

Taking the successful completion of the first lifting operation as a pivotal milestone, the project team will remain steadfast in its commitment to rigorous epidemic prevention and control and unwavering in its focus on safe production. By tailoring on-site management measures to local conditions, the team will ensure high-quality, on-time project delivery, create a landmark building for Qidong New District, and lay a solid foundation for achieving the national Gold Award for Quality Engineering.
