Creating a New Coastal Landmark in Sanya: Steel Structure of the Podium at the Sanya HeLian Central Business District Successfully Tops Out
Recently, the steel structure of the podium building in the Sanya HeLian Central Business District was successfully topped out.
As one of Hainan Province’s key projects, the Sanya He Lian Development is located at Phoenix Coast in Sanya’s Central Business District. The project is positioned as a high-end coastal commercial hub and business office complex, covering approximately 49.43 mu of land with a total floor area of 168,700 square meters. It comprises two main components: a 27-story, 120-meter-tall tower housing the business office space, and a four-story podium serving as the commercial center. The total investment amounts to roughly RMB 3.36 billion, with completion scheduled for 2024.
The project’s steel structure and curtain wall works were both undertaken and executed by Dadi Steel Structure, with unified management and coordinated collaboration throughout the construction process.
The main structural system of the project’s commercial podium is steel, arranged in a long, north–south orientation along the coastline. The construction span extends over 300 meters, with the podium’s steel structure featuring a maximum span of 23 meters and individual components weighing up to 35 tons. The primary curtain wall system for both the podium and tower sections is a horizontal-hidden, vertical-exposed glass frame curtain wall. The podium’s curtain wall area is approximately 40,000 square meters, while the tower’s curtain wall area is approximately 21,215 square meters.
The project will be developed into a flagship international regional headquarters, economic and central business district hub, and leading international tourism and consumption center in Sanya, providing first-class office environments for top-tier enterprises to establish operations in the central business district.
Throughout the project construction, the project team persevered in the face of hardship and overcame numerous challenges. By taking full advantage of Hainan’s seasonal characteristics, they proactively developed contingency plans and made appropriate adjustments to work schedules, thereby successfully navigating multiple adversities—including sandstorms, the rainy season, extreme heat, tight deadlines, and complex construction conditions—and effectively ensuring both the safety and quality of the works as well as timely progress.
Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sanya implemented temporary citywide static management on August 6, 2022. In strict accordance with local policies, the project office instituted closed-loop management of both the construction site and the living quarters and activated the epidemic prevention and control mechanism. After more than two months of relentless efforts, the peak of the outbreak was ultimately brought under stable control.
The successful capping of the podium structure this time has created new conditions for the subsequent curtain wall installation. Moving forward, Dadi Steel Structure will continue to strengthen safety and civilized construction management, rigorously control engineering quality, meticulously organize all construction activities, and deliver the project with high quality and efficiency, thereby contributing to Sanya’s development as a world-class coastal tourism city and supporting the high-quality development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
