Advance the curtain wall project for the Shangqiu International Convention and Exhibition Center, meticulously crafting a landmark building for the city.
The Shangqiu International Convention and Exhibition Center project is located on the core site of Riyue Lake in Shangqiu City, Henan Province. Our company is primarily responsible for the curtain wall and metal roofing works across eight areas, including the North Access Corridor, six standard exhibition halls, and the Arrival Hall. Specifically, the project encompasses 56,273 square meters of metal roofing, 23,745 square meters of tensile membrane roofing, 26,076.28 square meters of glass curtain wall, and 57,738.37 square meters of metal curtain wall.
The project will offer a wide range of functions, including exhibitions, conferences, catering, sports events, and cultural and recreational tourism. Upon completion, it will significantly enhance Shangqiu City’s capacity to host large-scale conferences and convention events, as well as its overall hospitality services, thereby serving as a gateway for opening up to the outside world.
The main curtain wall structural types include framed glass curtain walls, aluminum panel curtain walls, perforated aluminum panel curtain walls, honeycomb aluminum panel curtain walls, balustrade-type curtain walls, and skylights. These projects typically involve a wide variety of curtain wall systems, large project volumes, complex architectural forms, and high fabrication accuracy.
Due to the tight project schedule, the construction plan divides the site into work sections based on the exhibition halls and the main curtain wall types. Construction in each section is carried out concurrently, with the exterior double-skin curtain wall installed vertically from top to bottom and the interior facade and other curtain wall systems installed vertically from bottom to top.
This project features large curtain-wall grid dimensions, a complex building form, numerous folded-line, curved, and sloped surfaces, and a diverse curtain-wall system, all of which demand extremely high installation accuracy. Consequently, precise surveying and layout pose the primary construction challenge, with critical control points lying in accurately establishing the three-dimensional positioning of the building façade and precisely locating the large number of inter-floor support bearings.
During the construction of the project’s metal roof, the project team developed the “Detailed Construction Method for Fabrication, Fabrication, and Installation of Spandrel Supports and Purlins for Spatial Irregular Roofs,” which effectively ensured the desired curved roof geometry. This construction method was also recognized as a provincial-level construction method for engineering projects in Henan Province for 2022.
The north facade features an outward-sloping façade design. The steel structure installation has tight tolerance requirements and demands high welding quality, while the steel transverse beams are large in volume and span considerable distances, making their installation the most challenging aspect of this project.
