For the exterior portions of steel-structure buildings, custom-shaped columns—such as Y-shaped columns—are often employed to achieve an aesthetically pleasing visual effect and to support roof and ground-level walkway dome structures. These Y-shaped columns are typically fabricated from segmented steel components that are welded on-site to form the final shape, which increases the complexity of welding. In addition, Y-shaped steel columns are characterized by their substantial weight and challenging center-of-gravity positioning, making them more prone to torsional deformation and swinging during lifting operations and thereby raising the difficulty of hoisting.
