Mission Complete: Waterproof Roofing Construction of Guiyang Longdongbao Airport T3 Terminal

(Summary description)Upon our workers’ hard-working, the waterproof roofing construction of Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport T3 Terminal was accomplished as scheduled on March 30. Leaders in charge of the third phase of the expansion and the leadership from DADI attended the ceremony.The project on T3 terminal, covering 90,000 m2, consists of the roofing from the airside and connecting corridors (A zone), terminal building (B zone), and connecting corridor (C zone), including roofing structure, constructional layer, smart skylight, and siphon rainwater system. The total area of paved materials is 658,000 m2 and the steel consumption is 288 metric tons. The smart skylight system, covering 6,000 m2, adopts the electrochromed glass, a high-tech material firstly used in domestic airports, which is able to shield from sunlight and receive natural light in need of the people inside the building.
The original three-zone construction plan for totally 320 days was changed to 22-zone for 60 days per zone and the hand-over deadline was postponed to Feb 2021 from April 2020 due to the special geological condition. The tower crane was removed immediately after the completion of civil structure, for the crane had been set up inside the building. Moreover, the large-scale construction or rush work had become difficult because of the work on flight area of the east and the north, and on EPC viaduct of the west.Therefore, it is impossible to finish the construction in 60 days, including the curved roof, the special-shaped steel structure, and the hyperboloid aluminum plate of the outer cornice, with traditional ways making the process neither efficient nor safe and reducing the required precision of high-altitude scattered assembly, to assemble the roof with decentralized parts or to erect the cornice plate by plate after the keels are installed. To solve the problem, the management department adopted innovative BIM technology for modeling primary and secondary purlins and outer cornices, dividing them into various units to be prefabricated and assembled on the ground. The outer cornice was erected and glued on the ground as well, ensuring integral hoisting and one-time forming. Many procedures were conducted on the ground, thus the construction quality and efficiency were enhanced, providing technical support to achieve goals.Since commencement of the roofing construction in March 2020, all the parties involved have been worked so hard against the pandemic and many other difficulties to achieve significant breakthrough with success. On July 15, 2020, the waterproof roofing in GB2-1-1 zone was completed for the first time, and that of the corridor in A zone was accomplished on Nov 30. In the second year, the roofing of the main building was due for completion on March 30, marking the success of achieving the objectives. We will continue to take responsibility on our duty, never forget why we started, and contribute to the airport expansion in 2021. We will also take practical measures to enhance the rapid development of the aviation and economy in Guizhou to celebrate the centenary of the China Communist Party.
